The Best Volume Booster Apps for iPhone, and What They Cannot Do

Most of them work only on sound they play themselves, and very few listings say so clearly.

If your iPhone is too quiet, volume booster apps look like an easy answer. Many of them promise to make everything several times louder. It is worth knowing what they can actually do before you install one, because the most important fact rarely appears in the listing.

A declaration of interest: we make Volume Booster: Bass Boost EQ, which is on this list, and it has far fewer ratings than the others. Ratings and update dates come from the US App Store on 3 November 2026.

What iOS allows, and what it does not

iOS keeps each app's sound separate. An app from the App Store cannot reach into Spotify, YouTube, phone calls or the system volume and turn them up. That is a rule of the platform, and it applies to every app on this list, including ours.

What these apps can do is process the audio that they play themselves. So in practice a volume booster is usually a music player with an amplifier and an equaliser attached. You play your files, or a supported source, inside the app, and those get louder. If a listing suggests it will raise the sound of your whole phone, read the reviews closely before paying.

Our guide on boosting volume for videos and calls goes further into what is possible in those cases.

Try these free fixes first

Quiet sound often has a simple cause, and none of these costs anything:

  1. Clean the speaker grilles gently with a soft, dry brush. Dust and lint can make a big difference.
  2. Take off the case, particularly if it partly covers the speakers.
  3. Check Reduce Loud Audio in Settings under Sounds & Haptics, then Headphone Safety. It may be capping your headphones.
  4. Try the Late Night EQ in the Music settings, under EQ. It lifts the quiet parts of tracks in Apple Music.
  5. Look at Headphone Accommodations in Accessibility settings, which can boost soft sounds with supported headphones.

There is more in our guide on how to fix quiet iPhone speakers. If none of that helps, then a booster for your own audio files may be worth trying.

Two full music players

Bass Booster Volume Boost EQ (4.4 from 19,279 ratings, last updated October 2026) is openly a music player, with a bass booster and a 10-band equaliser with more than 20 presets. It can open your music library and download from services such as Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive. That makes it a good fit if you keep your own music files and want one place to play and adjust them.

Bass Booster EQ + Volume Boost (4.2 from 19,674 ratings, last updated September 2026) is a similar idea, with a volume amplifier, a manual equaliser, custom presets and offline listening. Its listing mentions weekly and yearly subscriptions and a free trial, so read the price screen before you begin.

Volume Booster Bass Booster: the most rated

4.5 from 25,576 ratings. Last updated March 2026.

The most rated app in this group combines a booster with an equaliser. High ratings are a good sign, but try it with the specific kind of audio you care about, because that is the real test for any app in this category.

Volume Boost – Sound Amplifier: for the world around you

4.3 from 3,724 ratings. Last updated October 2026.

This is a different kind of app. Its listing describes amplifying the sounds around you through a headset, adjusting for each ear with a built-in test, with noise filtering and a free trial before a subscription. It is no substitute for hearing care, so if you have trouble hearing day to day, see a professional.

Louder is not free for your ears

Boosting past the normal level can distort sound and damage small speakers, and long sessions of loud sound through headphones can damage your hearing permanently. Keep sessions short and start low. Apple's headphone safety tools can show how loud you have been listening, and it is worth reading is it safe to boost iPhone volume before pushing any slider to the top.

Volume Booster: Bass Boost EQ: ours

4.6 from 54 ratings. Last updated October 2026.

This is our app, and with only 54 ratings it has far less of a track record than the others. It says plainly that it works on audio played inside the app, either its built-in demo or files you import. It has a 10-band equaliser, a one-tap comparison so you can hear the difference, and boost levels of up to 800% for a session after watching a rewarded ad. A one-time purchase removes the app-open and interstitial ads and keeps 800% unlocked, with no subscription. It does not boost Spotify, YouTube or calls, because no app can.
